Goddess in Gaming

Ashley Ruhl - Narrative Director

February 10, 2022 hope Season 2 Episode 7

Ashley Ruhl’s (RULE) passion for telling stories visually led her into the field of game cinematics (also known as cutscenes), which are a hybrid role of game design, character performance and camera work.

In the past 10 years her cinematic and narrative credits have included the narrative MMO "Star Wars: The Old Republic" (BioWare), "Darksiders 3" (Gunfire Games), many titles from Telltale Games as both a cinematic designer and director. She became the first woman at Telltale to hold the title of Episodic Director, credited for Episode 3 of "Tales from the Borderlands".

This year she's leading the cinematic team on the Star Wars: The Old Republic towards their 10 year anniversary expansion, "Legacy of the Sith".

When it comes to game storytelling, Ashley's focus is always on the player experience, and how interactivity can create opportunities for players to tell their own stories within the framework of games.

The podcast I reference twice in this episode is the Tara Brach podcast -launched Dec 30, 2021 episode "Loving Ourselves into Healing - Part 3
